It seems like yesterday that I was finding out I was pregnant, and now Evangeline is finally here! We're so happy.
Here's the story:
My doctor wanted to induce me at 39 weeks because I was tested positive for GBS. It's not a big deal, and I was okay with inducing, so we tried to set up a date around the 26th or 27th. The hospital was booked for those days, so we scheduled for an induction a week later (for the 4th of July).
On the morning of the 27th, I woke up at around 7:45 and noticed that I had a missed call and a voicemail on my phone. I went to the next room to listen to the voicemail so I wouldn't wake Keith up, and it was the hospital saying that there was a problem with the computers earlier, and that they had a completely open schedule for inductions that day. They said to call back and let them know if I wanted to do it! I was so nervous! I went to tell Keith and we were just like "Why not?" Since we thought we would be induced at that time at a week ago, Keith had already reserved the rest of the week off. So it worked out perfectly. I called the hospital back and the lady in labor and delivery asked "Hey! Wanna have a baby today?!" I said "sure!" and that was it.
We were SO nervous and excited.
At the hospital they got us all ready and we started the contractions very small. As the hours went by they increased my dose of pitocin little by little. When we went in at 9am, I was already dilated one centimeter. At around 7pm I was at 3cm and got my epidural. It was awesome. I couldn't feel anything after that. At midnight they checked me again, and I was STILL at 3cm. The nurse said that they would check me again in an hour and if I hadn't progressed that we would talk about maybe doing a c-section. I started to worry, and said a prayer to myself that I could get through this without a c-section. Also, at this point the nurses had flipped me on my side to help the baby move down. The epidural works with gravity, so one side was feeling the painful contractions, and the other was numb. I asked the nurses to help, and they called the anesthesiologist to up my epidural dose and flipped me to the other side. At 1:30am Keith's dad and brother came to give me a blessing. They started the blessing, and then the nurse and my doctor came in to check my status and interrupted. We let them do their thing. An hour and a half earlier I was at 3cm. When they checked me this time, I was at TEN CENTIMETERS! It was truly a miracle. The nurses were very surprised. She said she had all the supplies for a c-section waiting outside the door, and was very excited she didn't have to use them. I was so relieved. Keith finished the blessing, and then we got set up to start pushing.
After pushing for a half hour, our little Evangeline was born at 2:26am on June 28th weighing at 6 pounds, 7 ounces. We love her so much! She is such a blessing in our lives.
So far we've had her home for 3 days. We're having fun learning her ways and enjoying her cuteness. She is so fun to have around! :)
