This past week I volunteered to be a cabin mom at girls camp! It was a lot of fun.
I got reeled into it 3 days after we moved to San Antonio. My neighbor was the camp director and needed one more cabin mom, because one backed out at the last minute. I was an answer to her prayers!
I was really nervous because the last time I was at girls camp was when I was a YCL about 6 years ago! It's crazy to think it was that long ago. I was also worried because I didn't know how I was supposed to act or what I was supposed to do. I hoped the girls would like me.
Tuesday was the first day of camp. We met all of the girls and I met the other cabin mom, Lisa. We became friends. We are about the same age and stage in life, and we didn't really know what we were supposed to do. lol The girls were really cute. I had the 1st years. They were so cautious and would ask before doing anything. During the cheers they would sing really seriously and quietly. They were sweet.
The theme of camp was "Think of all the joy you'll find when you leave the world behind" - a line from the song "You Can Fly!" from Peter Pan. I LOVED IT! I wish I had thought of that. The 1st years were indians, second years were mermaids, third years were pirates, fourth years were the lost girls, and YCLs were fairies. SO CUTE.
Being a cabin mom was pretty awesome. All I had to do is wake them up in the morning, get them to where they needed to be, and then make sure they went to bed on time. While they had level time, I took naps, and when they had free time, I played in the pool. It was like a vacation! It was great. I hope I can go next year.
